Equine Therapy or Healing with Horses?
The Difference Between Equine Therapy and Healing with Horses
Many people searching for support in Squamish use the term “therapy”. or in our specific case with sessions with horses “equine therapy”.
While healing with horses shares similarities with equine therapy, it is not clinical psychotherapy.
Simply put, healing with horses is a facilitated, relational experience focused on nervous system regulation, embodied awareness, and co-regulation with the herd.
There is no riding involved. The work happens on the ground, at a respectful pace, and centers consent for both human and horse. This is very important here at Kind Spirit Horses.
Based outdoors, in the majestic Squamish Valley, this work is held on private land in a quiet, natural setting. The mountains, trees, and herd all contribute to a sense of steadiness.
For women experiencing burnout or nervous system fatigue, healing with horses offers a grounded alternative to traditional talk therapy, where it can feel overwhelming at times —
When we come back to present moments, one that includes the body and the wisdom of the land, our nervous system regulates and slow down, offering the possibility for healing.
Healing is a choice. The horses and I offer you the presence, tools and space here where you can listen to your own internal voice.
